Cosmetics Hauls - 75% Off!

Fate was upon us as we walked into Sears. We never park on that side of the mall. Near the entrance was a cosmetic section that we didn't realize they had. A half empty shelf led us to ... 75% OFF! We had to double check with the sales clerk. Look what we scored!!

Cosmetics Haul - 75% Off!

These Revlon lip glosses are a current favorite and are kept in the purse for daily touch ups. The shadow sticks are fun, but not used often. The Iman brand is new to us. This pretty shadow is one we are anxious to try. Theses Loreal mascaras? Love! ... Magetic nail polish? Heck yeah! ... We got blush, glitter sticks, and more!

This is a beauty junkie's dream. We asked if this sale was nationwide, and the cashier wasn't sure. It wouldn't hurt to pop into Sears if you are close to one. You might just get your own cosmetics haul at 75% off!

China Glaze The Hunger Games Capitol Colours, Luxe and Lush, District 1

We love this polish as beauty addicts, not so much as a writers. Is it Lux and Lush, or Luxe and Lush? At first, we thought we had made errors - twice. Then, we discovered the discreptancy. The polish bottle says Luxe and the marketing material says Lux. So, if we make a typo, just know that we are confused. ;)

China Glaze, Luxe and Lush, Hunger Games Collection

Regardless, this is our new favorite nail polish and is, in our opinion, the very best one from the The Hunger Games Collection. We are applying it over everything! Luxe and Lush is great for nail art or perking up any color or design.

Here it is over Harvest Moon shown above, and over Hook and Line, shown below. Each are polishes from the China Glaze Hunger Games collection, Capitol Colours.

Why Does My Hair Look Like David Cassidy's?

To rephrase the title, "Why is everyone cutting my hair to look like David Cassidy?"

It's stressful finding a new hair person; One that understands your hair texture and style. I was forced to try new Cosmetologists when I relocated. Time after time, I emphasized the need to avoid thinning shears on my thick, coarse, and curly hair. Every time, they used a different method, and I ended up with a wannabe men's shag. Weird, right? The 'thinner' sections would just frizz. Not pretty!

The term I kept hearing in the salon is 'disconnection.' That doesn't always look great with long layers. I just wanted to be able to style beachy waves, and have long blended bangs! Why was this so hard? This is what happened:

First, they twisted the back of my hair. I thought they were checking for split ends. By the time the scissors made their way to the sides of my hair, I realized she was making horizontal cuts to the twisted sections. No thinning shears, but it gave an uneven 'disconnection' which looked awful.

Another time, I paid $200 for a haircut. It looked great when I was sitting in the chair waiting for a blow dry. Then, he said, "Your haircut is just beginning," and asked me to flip my head over.  I had asked what came next, and thought he was doing a little bit of an undercut. He ran his hands through my hair, and quickly cut random chunks of hair! Again, I ended up with a mushroom shape near the shoulders with scraggly ends. WTH?

I was doing okay with my third stylist, who I actually liked personality-wise. Then, the fourth time I went in, the same thing happened. No thinning shears, but she made random cuts to obtain disconnection. I also ended up with blunted, non-blended bangs. This is when it occurred to me that I looked like a long haired David Cassidy. You have no idea how much style time and product it took to make that hairdo look decent.

I was fortunate to find a referral to a stylist that I love. I drive an hour and a half each way to see her, and it's worth it! (I later found out she trained in Paris and Milan before coming to the US. She is fabulous.)

Moral of the story: A good hairstylist is worth every penny. Loyalty breeds amazing style!

bareMinerals Jonathan Adler Set

We just love products that we discover via our beauty buddies. I was given a jar of bareMinerals foundation powder to try by a friend that was visiting. My skin looked great! It covered any redness and imperfections of that day and left a nice finish. I ordered a starter kit in my shade have been using Bare Minerals powder ever since. (As a beauty blogger, that's the sign of a great product! If it makes it into the daily makeup bag, it's golden.)

While shopping at the mall recently, I wandered into a Bare Essentials store. (Bare Minerals / Bare Essentials = same thing.) The sales rep suggested I buy the bigger container of my go-to-favorite foundation. It happened to be a Jonathan Adler set. Being good with numbers, I quickly did the math. More product for less money per ounce AND I get a gift set?! I'm in!

The only drawback is that the shade available was Fairly Medium. I am a Fairly Light girl in the winter. (Actually, my exact shade is Summer Bisque, but I found out that's actually a concealer.) I do use Fairly Medium in the summer, so I purchased the limited edition set.

I took it home, and really liked it. The larger container is nice to have. The hard plastic box is ideal to keep make up brushes. I ended up putting makeup in it that I use occasionally, but not daily. I can cover it up with the lid, and not feel like my bathroom counter is a disaster when I run out the door in the morning. (6:20am people! I'm not a morning person.)

What I immediately loved, then disliked, is the brush. The longer handle is great. I like the weight of it. The coverage is good. The problem is the shedding. I thought it might go away after a few uses. The brush kept shedding. I liked the brush so much, that I kept using it hoping it would stop eventually. After 6 weeks or so, I had to concede. There wasn't time to remove the brush fibers every day after I did my makeup. I would inevitably realize that I'd missed one or two. I like the happy Jonathan Adler design on the handle, but had to give it up. I went back to using my small kabuki brush.

I'm still a fan of bareMinerals. I don't regret my purchase. The product is great, and I like the box. Unfortunately, the brush wasn't as wonderful after a few uses. The quote inside is a good one though!

 Well said, Jonathan Adler.

Revlon Starry Pink

While wandering through Walgreens one day, I stopped in my tracks to look at his nail polish. I admittedly have a 'nail polish problem,' but usually purchase the pro brands. This Starry Pink color by Revlon struck me, and I immediately went home to try it out. I loved it! Unfortunately, my visitors loved it too, and snagged the bottle! I only got this one photo which does not do the polish justice. I hesitated to post this picture, but decided to go for it since I liked the polish so much. If you see a bottle in the store, buy it! - Then, hide it from your friends! ;)
