My Big Fat MoroccanOil Review

For some time, we at Glambo have been curious about Moroccanoil.  The teal and brown bottles with the big orange M always caught our eye in the salon, and we kept hearing good things about its multiple uses and powers to tame even the most wayward flyaways.  After talking to a few stylists who told us that they and their colleages use the oil solo for silky smooth blowouts, as well as adding it to everything from shampoo to haircolor (not that we'd advocate this), we decided it's a must-try.

We tend to be over-achievers, and got excited, so when stocking up, we couldn't stop at just the oil.  We gathered a stash of Morrocanoil's most popular products, deciding to review them all individually over the next few weeks.

This week, we're using the shampoo and conditioner.  Stay tuned for our reviews to come soon.

Last Chance to Bumpit?

Remember Bumpits? The commercials flooded every TV channel around the holidays. Lately, we have seen them on clearance. First, they were $2.99 at Sally Beauty Supply. Then, we saw them for $2.00 U.S. at Big Lots. Looks like they are on their way out for good. This might be your last chance to pick them up, and at 80% off, why not give them a try?

Buying Bumpits may feel like getting caught listening to that quirky song that you don't want to admit you like. We'll confess: The Glambo Girls have used Bumpits in the past. It's one of those products that work, but not quite as perfectly as you'd hoped. We eventually set them aside and didn't use them much. Glambo decided to give it one more attempt after seeing them on sale, for the sake of the blog. The small Bumpit doesn't do too much, and the larger ones will give you BIG hair (especially if you use hairspray and backcomb.) It's kind of weird having the plastic piece inserted and hidden inside your hairdo. Maybe it's because of the fear that the Bumpits will be seen. One essential item that must be used along with Bumpits is a handheld mirror. Check the top, back and sides of your bouffant to make sure that the piece (or even the teeth of the Bumpit) can not be seen from any angle.

If you haven't tried Bumpits before, get them now. We many not use them daily, but they are great to have on hand for Halloween. How else are you going to create the Peg Bundy or Hairspray look?

Comment and tell Glambo: Do you use Bumpits?

Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat, Part Deux

You know that we can't seem to keep our hands off the crackle colors that are sooo very hot right now, and with the Sally Hansen price point and wide availability, it was a no-brainer that we had to try more colors!

If you read our last review of Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat  read here , you may recall that although we liked the crackle look, we had issues with the clumped product in the bottle, and the increasing difficulty of applying the product.  Well, here we are, giving it another shot.

In an effort to avoid doing 4 different manicures, I decided to do a quick tween-style manicure using 4 colors: Antiqued Gold, Fuchsia Shock, Distressed Denim, and Cherry Smash, over Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in White On, and topping it all off with Sally Hansen Complete Care 4-in-1 treatment for a glossy look.

I was advised by the super helpful beauty clerks at Walgreens that one of their customers insists that the crackles will not work properly unless used with other Sally Hansen polishes (I now wonder if that customer was a Sally Hansen rep :-)

I began by painting all 10 digits with the Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in White On (excuse my uneven nails).  This took me back to grade school, and painting my nails with White Out or Liquid Paper!

First Up: Antiqued Gold:

Again, the brush was very thin, but this time, the lacquer was not thick and clotted.  It was thin, and applied well.  In this case, I found that I had to load the brush fully, and then apply it.  It shattered in big clumps, and was sparkly and subtle over the white.  If I had cleaned up the cuticles, it'd look pretty cool.

Next Up: Fuchsia Schock

Again, it went on thin, and crackled well.

On to the right hand, and Distressed Denim:

Hmmm.  This color was a bit thicker, and the polish in the bottle started getting thick quickly.  I'm wondering if maybe this problem is unique to the darker pigmented colors.  Crackled well.

Last but not Least: Cherry Smash

Just like the Distressed Denim color,  this polish was thick and harder to work with, but I may have to rock this look for this upcoming 4th of July!!!

Overall, I'd say this get's a GLAMBO Kiss on the Cheek.  For me, it's a fun "something different to try" , and for my tween, it's awesome. Remember, you need to work quickly with it, and keep the bottle covered as much as possible, so as not to dry out the product in the bottle. This is especially true in dry climates and if you are in a room with a fan on!

Straight from the Sally Hansen website: Do not leave the bottle open, close tightly when not in use. Allow it to dry and seal with any Sally Hansen top coat.

Angelina Jolie Poses Naked-Faced for Louis Vuitton’s 'Core Values' Campaign?

Angeline Jolie photographed by Annie Leibovitz for Louis Vuitton. Photo By Annie Leibovitz

Earlier this week, excited bloggers and media members leaked out this gorgeous Louis Vuitton ad, shot in Cambodia, featuring Angelina Jolie.  The photo is beautiful, and I personally have never wanted to go to Cambodia...until now (take note Cambodian Tourism Bureau).

One thing that caught our eye here at Glambo is that she reportedly has opted for a natural makeup-free look in this "Core Values" ad for Louis Vuitton. REALLY?? Honestly, it looks to us like she is rocking a smoky eye and some Buxom lipgloss! Is this Hollywood's version of makeup-free? Maybe she originally took the photo makeup-free, but then editors found it wan't glamorous enough, so digitally airbrushed a smoky eye onto her?

We also heard that Jolie insisted that she use her own clothes, and handbag for the shoot. Reportedly, the bag modeled in this picture is 6 years old, and is not even available for purchase! Hilarious. So, what is the point of the ad then? "Here at Louis Vuitton, our core value is selling you things you cannot attain."  Just guessing.  Or perhaps, "We like to hire spokespeople that are such divas that they will model our brand, just nothing we're actually selling right now."

Well, it looks like LV may have to bring back a re-edit of Angelina's bag.  I guess that's what happens when you hire a diva with core values (isn't that an oxymoron?)  Seriously, we love Louis, and Angelina, but this ad gets a Glambo Snicker.

We want to know your opinion.  Does it look like Angelina is make-up free in this ad?  Comment on this post, comment on our Facebook Page, or tweet us @GlamboGirls .

Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat

Sally Hansen Crackle Colors:Pink, Red, Black, Blue, Gold, Silver, Purple, White

Hello Ladies! Are you tired of the shatter chatter yet? We didn't think we would purchase any more of these nail polishes. When we saw the Sally Hansen version at Walgreens, we had to give it a try. They have quite a selection of colors, and about half of them were in stock. We picked 02 Vintage Violet. It's a grape hued purple with a light blue / lavender iridescent overtone, which we used over a silver polish and base coat.

We like the 02 Vintage Grape color.
What we liked: The color breaks apart nicely and more quickly than some other shatter brands. The crackle marks are wider, which looks good. Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat sells for less than $7.00 Retail, which is cheaper than the other polishes we have reviewed. Plus, there is the added benefit of coupons and store discounts that are readily available. This polish dries faster than any crackle that we have tried.

What didn't work:
1. The brush is narrow. We can usually polish with three strokes, and this one took at least four. That wouldn't be an issue except that the overlapping of the strokes created a darker striping effect and uneven color distribution.

2. The polish dried out very fast. Glambo recommends covering any shatter polish bottle as much as possible, but the Sally Hansen brand actually started clumping in the bottle.

3. By the time we had polished seven out of ten fingers, we had to put polish remover on a Q-Tip and scoop the clumps out of the neck of the bottle. We even had to wipe off the brush to complete our manicure.

Our Q-Tip full of remover and chunks of Crackle Overcoat.
The brush and applicator have dried polish in multiple places.
See the clumping on the top of
the bottle & on the brush?

We have reviewed several polishes of this type, and have not had an issue to this extent. By the time we applied laquer to the last few fingernails, it was like we were smearing on grape jelly with a toothpick.

Please Note: The Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat was used in a dry climate, and we are trying all of the other colors to give our readers a full assessment. Stay tuned for another Crackle Update! (Read Part Deux HERE.)

Goody Spin Pin

I've been wanting to try Goody Spin Pins for a while, mainly because it is difficult to find options to secure long, thick hair.  I'm happy to report that these work well. It took longer to get the pins out of the packaging that it did to figure out how to use them. My first attempt was a half-hearted one. After a while, some strands of hair did slip out of the hair style. When I took the time to twist the pins in all the way, everything stayed nicely in place. My 'do' even survived a game of basketball. The pins remain well-hidden within the hair, and do not hurt your head like some hair devices can do. They also don't snag or tangle your locks upon removal. They are easy to take in and out, thanks to the bent portion at the top of the pin. Just remember, 'lefty-loosey, righty-tighty.' For making it easy to anchor any updo painlessly into place, the Goody Spin Pin gets a Glambo Kiss of Approval.

Hit the Button to See the Jersey Floor!

Is it wrong that we can't stop staring at this Jersey-ified transformation?

It's amazing what too much tanning cream, hair gel and extensions can do for a person's overall look. If you are short on time, go to 4:45 to see some familiar faces enter the club on the Jersey Floor.

Looks like more episodes will air on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. We can't wait!

Happy Birthday Marilyn Monroe!!

The fabulous Marilyn Monroe would have been 85 today. This iconic beauty was approximately 5’5” and was rumored to be a 14/16 in British sizes. By today’s U.S. standards, that would place her in the size 8-12 range. She had an amazing hour-glass figure and people still emulate her sense of style.

In honor of her birthday, here are our favorite Marilyn Monroe quotes:

“Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world."

"If you're gonna be two-faced at least make one of them pretty."

"Beneath the makeup and behind the smile I am just a girl who wishes for the world."

"I want to grow old without facelifts. I want to have the courage to be loyal to the face I have made."

"All little girls should be told they are pretty, even if they aren't."

"What do I wear in bed? Why, Chanel No. 5, of course"

"Diamonds are a girls best friend."

Marilyn seems like one smart blonde to us. :)
